Allow me to begin with a story. I was moderating a debate at last month’s International Association of Gaming Advisors Annual Summit. The motion for debate was “Unregulated social gaming operators represent a major threat to consumers and licensed real gambling operators alike.” A sizeable proportion of the audience was from the US. On the evening before the debate, as entirely predicted by my business partner, Suzanne Davies, one such member approached me and asked, “What is social gaming? Is it gambling?” Without necessarily realizing it, he had hit the nail on the head; well, two nails actually.
