David Clifton comments on last month’s Gambling Commission Public Statement (that can also be downloaded below), following its investigation into anti-money laundering controls at Grosvenor Casinos and meccabingo.com (both of which are part of the Rank Group).

Under the Money Laundering Regulations, the Gambling Commission is the supervisory authority for casinos and has a duty to take necessary measures for the purpose of securing compliance by land-based and online casinos with the requirements of the Regulations. This investigation by the Commission shows that it has welcomed a voluntary settlement from Rank, that has included a third party audit of its revised AML arrangements and a payment of £950,000 which is to be applied to “agreed socially responsible purposes”.
