Gambling operators challenged to quicken pace of consumer focus

Gambling Commission_8On 8 November 2016, we attended the Gambling Commission’s first ever “Raising Standards” Conference in Birmingham. It commenced with a speech by Sarah Harrison, the Commission’s Chief Executive, that – together with our summary – can be downloaded below. Continuing the Commission’s new focus on consumers, the speech contained a stern warning that future failures by licensed gambling operators may result in licence reviews and imposition of stronger penalties.

A video of Sarah Harrison’s speech can be viewed at https://youtu.be/sCkFq3FfUR8 or http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/Press/2016/Commission-challenges-operators-to-quicken-pace-of-consumer-focus.aspx?utm_source=eBulletin&utm_campaign=14.11.16&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Consumer-focus

Update: The Commission has announced that, in January 2017, it will be publishing a consultation on proposed changes to the way in which it uses its regulatory enforcement and licence review tools to ensure that the needs of consumers are met. More about this can be read on page 5 of Sarah Harrison’s “Raising Standards” speech.
