Renewal of Licensing Act 2003 personal licences

The Government has published a fact sheet explaining the process for personal licence renewals. It will apply to holders of such licences that expire in the early part of 2015 prior to Royal Assent being given to the Deregulation Bill that will abolish the need for renewal. The fact sheet can be downloaded below but it should be noted that contrary to a previous Home Office announcement: (a) the renewal application must be accompanied by the original personal licence (or a copy depending on the view taken by each Licensing Authority) and (b) whilst Licensing Authorities should acknowledge receipt of renewal applications for certainty’s sake, this is not essential for the application to remain validly made. The prescribed renewal application form has still to be published but those affected will need to ensure that it is submitted no earlier than three months before, and no later than one month before, their personal licence expires.
